Connecting the Parts
This was a very interesting activity as I believed I would be spot on with all these topics. I thought to myself, yeah I was actively making sure I had all these in my essay while I was writing it. To start, patterns I see is that when it comes to repetition, I have a strong start and emphasize words I’m keen on, but that a little more on some key words from my thesis would go a long way in making sure the reader doesn’t get off topic. Besides that, I saw no other patterns here. It was, in my opinion, a good mixture of information. I don’t seem to rely on certain things more than another, if anything, I’m seriously lacking in pointer words, which I know now is an important part in connecting everything back to my thesis. Also, I wouldn’t go as far to say that any of these passages are hard to read and understand, but that I definitely see room for improvement in all the devices outlined in this chapter. I could definitely be more direct in my transitions, phrase wise, in making sure everything is flowing and not chopy. While I don’t believe it to be chopy, the easier the flow, the easier the reader comprehends. Pointer words seem very helpful and I can’t wait to try them out to see how they make my passages more effective in unconsciously pointing the reader to what I want them to see. Lastly, more repetition, as I stated earlier, can go a long way in making sure my points hit home with the reader.
