Southan Response
A good deed is more than just the needy – Well, they are! While the needy may be more important, I believe that anything done to help others is considered a good deed. Not all of us are able to help the needy. What if we are the needy? Don’t we still have a responsibility to the society to do good deeds. In my opinion, yes you do. A good deed is just letting someone cut in willingly, holding doors for people, thanking veterans for their service. Helping to improve society is counted as a good deed. Money may make more of an impact in the moment, but the personal touch means more to a person than receiving something that was bought with the money. It also means more to the giver to see the impact and gratitude they receive.
Wait. Why do we have to? – So, yes, ethically it’s impossible to justify the making of a movie when the money could be used to save lives. However, if society found ways to ethically not spend money on things, then society would not exist. Just because you can’t justify doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done. This doesn’t make any sense to me. Why would this even be mentioned? No one, not even an ethics professor, would probably agree with this. It goes further to say that if the movie was frivolous, then it would not be justified. Does that mean documentaries shouldn’t be made? It’s just hard for me to follow the logic here. I stopped dead in my tracks because a thought like this never came to my mind. Like I said, if life were about helping other people, than really, there’s no living or life. Ethics or doing what’s right does not dictate how we should live our life wholly, only in bits and pieces.

Aaron,
I really enjoyed reading your responses. I think your experience traveling and volunteering will lend you a fantastic perspective on our reading materials this round. I’d love to see you follow that philosophical thread you started above. Keep honing your argument. I’m excited to see where it leads.
