Favorite Revision Strategies

These favorite writing revision strategies come from not only what I’ve learned in the english classroom and also what I’ve learned from my science classes around how to design an experiment. I like just writing what pops into my head at that moment. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that the first take at something is usually the best; no matter how rough it is. I also try to relate to whatever it is I’m writing, I feel some passion can get infused into my writing if I do that. Outside of ENG 100, I have totally used some of these principles. For instance, on multiple choice question tests in other classes, I pick what I feel is best and never change my answer unless I convince myself of it. In lab courses, I design the lab as I see fit; and then go see my teachers to see if they have any advice on how to improve on the experiment so that the best results are produced. I like to look over the work I’ve done and look over it all with a practical eye and see if what I’ve created/ completed actually makes sense. I also don’t believe that looking at my computer for all this time will do me much good, so I like to print out everything and take a red pen to it. The old fashioned pen and paper never fails me, and I find so many errors when I do this. This to me is the best revision strategy for any project.

  1. Nice. I like that you print out your free drafts. I think that paper and pen introduce an important physicality into the composition process. 3/3
