Third Essay Outline

Third Essay Outline

Ideas that I have regarding the incorporation of other media into my final essay include spatial, auroral, and visual. I want to structure my essay at certain points to look different. That includes making sentences their own line to help define a point or just have different spacing options throughout the essay. I want to make it look unique and help more easily convey what I’m trying to say. In regard to auroral, I want to add either a movie clip or a song that I believe truly defines what art is. I think that here might be a good place to go back and look at the “Let’s Talk About Art” presentations to give a few examples. Lastly, in regard to visual aspects, there’s a lot I can do here. I could change text color when I want to convey a certain mood, I could throw in pictures to help give a visual for the reader to better understand what it is I’m trying to say. To me, visuals always help me to better understand what I’m doing or reading. So, I’m hoping the same thing applies here, by adding different modes of communication, readers will have an easier time understanding what it is I’ll be trying to convey to them without much doubt. While I’m not sure at this time what sources to use; I plan to use OwlPurdue in order to correctly site all my sources.

Outline:

Art helps to give people a better appreciation for the things we overlook. When my parents divorced, I saw things in a different light. It showed me to value the little things in life and truly take in the beauty of the world because it’s a great resource to lean on. Beauty can be distracting, and in my case it was a good thing. I could sit looking at the ocean for hours taking it all in. It just gave me a better understanding of life and that while everything doesn’t work out like we think, it will eventually be okay in the end. I think that here is a good time to but in some visuals, either a clip from a movie that I feel has great beauty or of a picture of a place I enjoy.

Art makes us do a double take. We have our initial perceptions of something and then bam, it’s completely changed. A great example of this is Alysa and Meghan’s Art project. It was of a mural of ocean waves in Denver. It wasn’t until my second time around the block did I realize that this mural was in a landlocked state. It makes us look at things and think, okay this what I see now, but we need to go further and say what might I think about this tomorrow. A great thing I could do here is put a brief song clip before my paragraph pertaining to it, let readers get their initial thoughts, and then talk about it and have it again for them to play.

Schiller’s understanding is essentially that life needs balance. Too much of one thing is bad for anyone, that is one thing I’d like to think that society can agree on. We need to balance what we want and what we need, because they are two different things. Unfortunately, we are not quite there yet. We believe that beauty if the physical attractiveness of a person or something, not the meaning. This can relate back to wanting more than needing. Or, because we’re not getting what we need, we go for the opposite of it. But, everything in moderation as those around me always say. Recognizing that the physical beauty is the goal. Then, we fulfill Schiller’s sense and form drive. We have balance and then our lives will have balance in them as well.

  1. In your paragraph about how art help people appreciate things, I like how you made a person connection about your parents. I myself have only one parent in my life, and I completely agree with your point about how it allows you to see life in a different way. I think that you could use that a lot in this essay, even when you talk about how life needs balance. I think that it could be a main part in your essay even without going into specific details. You do a good job with these paragraphs developing your thoughts. I’m not sure what you would do for a music video, but I think that it is a great idea because it will also be able to show a type of emotion for your essay that you cannot achieve through just words.

  2. I really like your ideas for this multimodal project! I like your idea for adding a song or a movie clip into the project. I think it definitely will make your project unique as that seems like a very difficult thing to do in which I will not be trying that. One thing I had not thought of was changing text color. When starting this project I only thought of it as a straight forward essay with maybe adding a picture here and there, keeping by the MLA standards. Your outline definitely gave me some more ideas for my own project! I believe that you have a good start here and that your outline seems to give a good structure for the project moving forward. I liked how you included the ocean into your text as an illustration and it related nicely into the art project you picked by Alysa and Meghan. Good luck with your paper, I’m sure it will be great!

  3. Aaron,
I think that it says something that painful times cause so many of us to slow down and pay attention to beauty. This idea reminds me of a painful and gorgeous short story called, “The Peach Stone,” by Paul Horgan. I read it years ago, but I still think about it regularly. It’s worth checking out.

Consider focusing on this very phenomenon–how people tend to seek beauty out to help them through a painful time. How could our society use this insight to improve?

    Wonderful job! 3/3
